It just happened without me thinking about it. I traveled 584 million miles and now people are wishing me good cheer and birthday greetings.

It all has to do with the SUN.

WE HARVEST BY IT.

WE BASK IN IT

THE SUN

WE WAIT FOR IT

THE SUN

WE AVOID IT

THE SUN

WE CIRCLE IT

THE SUN

WE WORSHIP IT.

It is our timekeeper, it is our heat, it is our photosynthesis, it is our life.

Every civilization has worshiped it in one form or another.

Virgins were sacrificed when it arose, blood was spilled, prisoners were beheaded, the SUN has had a lot of attention by hominids over the past two hundred thousand years.

As we stand back and look at ourselves in the modern era we certainly can see much of our folly. Perhaps the demons of the underworld didn’t really have to battle with El Sol.

I stroll the Larco and other museums in Lima and at the Cathedral of Lima where I view the bones of Pizzaro …minus his skull. Someone felt he might not have been all he was cracked up to be. We are fixated by history, people and body parts.

Mark Twain mentioned in his book “Innocence Abroad” (circa 1867? Paraphrasing) “I am surprised that the Bible never mentioned that John the Baptist had 12 fingers?” “I’ve recently been to London, Paris, Rome and Jerusalem and each city had three of his finger bones”

At the Larco museum in Lima, other museums in London, Paris, Rome and Firenze’ I am confronted with our historic obsession, an object so vital that it is the essence of life and hence…religion.

At each museum I encounter historic collections of Catholic Monstrances, they are found in every museum and are exceedingly lavish displays of providential divination.

For those unfamiliar with the Monstrance, it is an object that is intended for the exposition of the body of Christ/the blessed sacrament.

Enclosed are a few photos of Monstrances, understand that Monstrances were created around the 14th century, just a recent blink in time.

Radiating beams , precious metals, quartz crystal in the center to amplify the light, precious gemstones, all manner of valuable materials to validate the religion or THE SUN,  All cultures, all religions.

At the same time the Phoenix bird rises from the ashes……into SUN LIGHT.

I step back and see hundreds of ancient societies creating similar adorations and respectful acknowledgements of this supreme object we call El Sol-The Sun.

I’m grateful to have circumnavigated it sixty eight times for a total of 39,712 million miles, give or take a million.
